About eight years ago I was introduced to a unique opportunity called WaveMAX®. In franchise development I review a large number of potential concepts and I say no to nearly all of them. The reason is simple — most don't offer scalability, operational simplicity, or true innovation. WaveMAX® was the rare exception. Mike Roberts, the founder behind the original Jacksonville store, had developed a streamlined model that addressed the biggest problems in the laundromat industry: outdated facilities, lack of professional oversight, and inefficient use of space and equipment.
What stood out to me immediately was the intelligence behind the design. This wasn’t just another laundromat. It was a fully reimagined retail experience built for today’s customer and tomorrow’s investor. Mike eliminated wasteful layouts, focused on right sizing equipment to match market demand, and elevated store cleanliness and safety to hospital grade standards.
More importantly it was scalable. It was a system that could be replicated across markets without sacrificing the brand’s integrity or profitability. We weren’t just selling equipment. We were building a network of strategic investor focused stores. And that’s exactly what we’ve done. Today in 2025 WaveMAX® is the largest laundromat franchise in the United States with 65 open units and over 200 sold. It’s a milestone we’re proud of but it’s only the beginning.
I chose to get involved with WaveMAX® because I saw a unique opportunity to bring something the laundromat industry desperately needed — professional management, operational structure, and a higher standard of excellence in a space that had long been dominated by outdated, mom-and-pop models. For decades, laundromats operated without innovation, consistency, or customer focus. Most were neglected, poorly maintained, and inefficient. I knew there had to be a better way, and WaveMAX® offered that path forward.
